One of the most shocking statements made by President Obama last night was that he favors the use of "clean" coal.
There is no such thing as "clean" coal. The use of coal to produce energy emits toxins and poisons into the air. The strip-mining, mountaintop removal practices that are now common in coal mining companies cause widespread ecological devastation wherever these practices are used. The use of coal in this country is destroying communities, polluting the air and water, and killing Americans.

Here is Robert Kennedy, Jr., noted environmental lawyer, explaining why there is no such thing as "clean" coal. If we want to get off of oil, and stop global warming, then we need to get serious about green technologies, solar and wind, and stop giving in to the oil, gas, and coal corporations who are killing us all.
